I am so grateful to have Brittany Yard as my coach… Not only is she an incredibly talented rider and horsemen but she is also an incredibly talented and intuitive teacher. It is one thing to have knowledge, but to be able to translate that knowledge to so many people with so many different learning processes is just an entirely different skill altogether. I can’t say enough good things about Brittany and her training! My horse Finn and I have progressed leaps and bounds (literally!) under her coaching. She has a way to explaining things that just make sense and really resonate with both me (and Finn!) and she’s just generally a warm, friendly and wonderful person to be around.
Prior to starting work with Brittany, I could hold my own in the saddle and Finn and I could certainly get through a jumper course, but we were missing things like impulsion, connection and carriage – all the things that would make a decent jumping round a standout one (and also help us stand a better chance in the dressage ring if I decide to tackle eventing). Neither Finn or I had a ton of prior training on dressage principles…but with Brittany it’s finally all coming together and I’m so thrilled. Finn’s a happier horse under saddle, and I’m a happier rider. And MAN can he jump when he’s carrying himself correctly. Maybe I’ll finally do my first horse trial this year after all…
My progress with Cowboy has far exceeded my expectations since we started training with Brittany. The best part, though, is how much fun she makes learning and how she has expanded my love of this sport.
Brittany is fully engaged during a lesson. She is in the arena with you (I feel so many instructors sit outside the arena these days) where she can see what you are doing from all angels walk beside you to give you real time aid input. This creates immediate results.
Brittany is patient and kind in her teaching. Towards the end of the lesson she will confirm that both Cowboy and I have enough in us to do the next exercise. Her awareness of the rider and horse allows her to push us to our full potential, but never overextend us. She has taught me patience and to ride the horse I have that day. When we must back track or revisit something she makes it fun. I never feel sad or discouraged having to take a few steps backward to improve. I appreciate that she creates a strong foundation to make me my best and keep Cowboy sound and happy.
The number of questions I ask is often unreasonable. Brittany is the first instructor I have had that will answer all my questions presenting information in a variety of ways until I fully understand. I am impressed with how she relates the bio-mechanics of the horse with what we are trying to achieve. It all just makes so much sense the way she teaches. Outside of our lessons when she comes across a video online that is applicable to what we have been working on she will forward it to me. Her commitment to improving her students extends well beyond the hour lesson.
Throughout my year working with Brittany, I’ve made progress in my riding like I never have before. Each lesson is not just a lesson, but an opportunity to grow as a horse person and gain the knowledge necessary to have productive schooling sessions.
Towards the end of last year, my lease of the mare I was working with had to be suddenly ended and I took multiple months off of riding to search for a new horse. During that time, Brittany actively worked to find me a new lease horse that would fit my ability and went out of her way to try the horses with me. After she found my current lease horse, Tanner, Brittany helped me pick up right where I left off. Even though Tanner was green and completely different from my previous ride, I felt like I didn’t miss a beat.
The progress Tanner and I have made in just around five months is truly unlike anything else I’ve experienced in my ten years of riding. Brittany knows what she’s doing, does it well, and manages to communicate that knowledge to her students easily and effectively. Every lesson is fun, fits exactly what I need at that moment, and continues to help me progress in my riding and horsemanship.
Working with Brittany is truly a privilege. Her knowledge, dedication, and kindness shine through in every lesson and I am constantly learning more and growing as a rider!
I started working with Brittany a few years ago and absolute love her lessons and how she instructs. She breaks things down simply and knows exactly how much to push. I have some anxiety when it comes to jumping and she always has a plan for our lessons and is super patient with me. She recently helped me with the purchase of my new horse Georgette. The process was so incredibly smooth and easy with her help and guidance. She never watches a clock during lessons and we always finish on a good note. I highly recommend her.
I’ve been working with Brittany for a couple of years in dressage and eventing with my very sensitive TB. Brittany really challenges us just past where I think we are capable without pushing us too hard. She instills confidence by being very in tune with the level I am at and showing me that I can do more and expect more out of myself and my horse. She always motivates me by giving us homework to focus on before the next lesson so I’m never stuck wondering what to do between lessons. Brittany makes us work really hard but she is your biggest cheerleader when you have achieved your goals, no matter how small. When I look back at my riding from a couple of years ago, I’m amazed at the progress that we have made and look forward to seeing what’s in store for the future!
Excellent teaching. Brittany has such a knack for teaching and getting results. It has been so rewarding to make progress and become much more aware of how my position affects my horse.
