With over 25 years of experience working with horses, Brittany has a foundation in Eventing, Hunters, and Dressage. With her current focus being on Dressage and Hunters, Brittany trains at the FEI Dressage level with Bernardo Vergara on her homebred Westfalen mare, Divine Comedy. Brittany is developing her six year old Oldenburg mare, Brazen Mistress SV, under the watchful eye of Taylor Deary of Lilly Hill Farm.
How it all began: Brittany’s riding career started in the Hunter ring, on the local New Jersey circuit. When she was 12, her mom signed her up for Amwell Valley Hounds Pony club. She quickly moved up the rating scale and fell in love with Eventing and Mounted Games (representing the silver medal USPC 2003 team in Canada).
During her time in Pony Club, Brittany was fortunate to ride and train various auction ponies that came to the barn for resale. It was through Camelot auction, she acquired her very first horse, a Premrin mare, Hello Dolly, who she later took through Training level Eventing and the traditional B Pony Club rating. (Hello Dolly is the mother to Brittany’s current competition horse, Divine Comedy, and granddam to her up and coming baby, Debutante).
Brittany progressed through her traditional A Pony Club rating (on the first attempt) thanks to her long time coach, friend, and mentor, Ashley Johnson. After passing her rating, Brittany went on to compete with her partner, Gatsby, at the Intermediate level of Eventing and third level dressage, obtaining her USDF bronze medal.
Building her string of young horses, Brittany competed three horses in the YEH classes and two went on to place in the top 10 in the four year old YEH East Coast championship at Fairhill in 2012. Brittany then took the three YEH graduates through the Preliminary, CCI** and Intermediate levels of Eventing.
Brittany has trained her first homebred Westfalen mare, Divine Comedy, for Hunter Derbies, Intermediate Eventing, and the FEI level of dressage: earning her USDF silver medal with scores towards her gold. This mare is also the dam to one of Brittany’s young horses, Debutante.
In addition to training and competing her own horses, Brittany has also trained horses for numerous clients and has sold horses into various disciplines, based on where they were happiest. She believes it is important for a horse to be happy in the job that it is being asked to do. It is the training process that Brittany finds so rewarding, and she loves to help green horses confidently develop correct foundations to ensure future success.
Brittany credits much of her equestrian teaching style to her years in Pony Club, working with various trainers and clinicians, and her secondary education degree from The College of New Jersey. As a high school English teacher for eight years, Brittany learned to look at the whole picture and truly take time to understand the “why” before determining the how.
Brittany truly enjoys all aspects of this industry: helping clients find the perfect horse, matching buyers with appropriate horses, and training riders and horses to work seamlessly together. So, if you are in need of sales guidance, training for yourself or your horse, show coaching, or regaining your confidence, Brittany can help develop a program for you and your horse.
